Quick Mug Rug for Dad!

Need a really quick gift for Father's Day? How about a super-simple, masculine mug rug for his coffee and snack? This generous-sized mug rug is roomy enough for the larger snacks that Dad likes!

Start with 3 strips of fabric 2" wide and one binding strip 2-1/4" wide.

Cut (1) 5" X 2" piece for the center.
Cut (4) 5" X 2" pieces for the middle row.
Cut (4) 8" X 2" pieces for the outer row.
The binding should be 2" X the width of the fabric.

Sew a middle strip to each side of the center strip with a 1/4" seam allowance; press.

Sew a middle strip to each end of the block; press.

Sew an outer strip to each side of the block; press.

Sew an outer strip to each end of the block; press.

Cut a scrap of backing fabric and a scrap of batting a little larger than the finished block. Sandwich together and quilt. Trim and square up edges; bind.

Now bake Dad's favorite cookies or run by the coffee shop and pick up a pastry and a cup of hot coffee for your super special Dad!!

Dad can even take this with him when he goes to get coffee and read the paper. If he likes to sit outside, it won't blow away every time he picks up his scone like a flimsy, little napkin will!

  2. OMG! I cannot believe you said that! My husband was going to Starbucks this morning and I asked him to get me a scone to "photograph on this Father's Day mug rug". And he just stood there staring at me and said, "uh . . . how about a donut instead?" But I insisted because I thought the scone would look nicer! That is too funny!!
